The Government of India has launched 'GreenE', a programme to create awareness across various levels of society, to adopt responsible measures and promote sustainable electronics, that is responsive to environmental needs. This programme is targeted at corporates, manufacturers, government, dealers, refurbishers, academic institutes, RWas and the informal sector. Conceived by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, GreenE aims to educate people about the environmental hazards of e-Waste, if disposed in an unsafe manner. The project has been initiated in 10 cities as a pilot in its first year of implementation - Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Imphal, Indore, Kolkata, Moradabad, Panjim, Patna, Puducherry and Ranchi.
Initiatives under GreenE are being jointly conducted by MAIT, NASSCOM and CEAMA. As a starting point, we decided to assess the behaviour of each city, so as to customise activities and conducted stakeholder consultation workshops in these cities.
