A Positive Note for the
Indian IT Hardware sector: MAIT on recent clarification on Import Management
System for IT Hardware by DGFT
New Delhi, 19 September 2023: In light of the recent policy circular issued by
the Directorate of Foreign Trade, Government of India, concerning the Import
Management System for IT Hardware, MAIT, the country’s leading industry
association for IT, Telecom, and Electronics Hardware, expresses its
satisfaction.
In
this regard, MAIT extends its gratitude to MeitY and DGFT for issuing
notifications and policy circulars clarifying that the authorizations issued
shall remain valid until September 30, 2024.
Furthermore, MAIT thanks MeitY and DGFT
for clarifying that SEZ units and EOUs/EHTP/STPI/BTP are not required to obtain
a 'restricted import authorization' for importing IT hardware.
“We
appreciate MeitY for acknowledging industry concerns and soliciting industry
input to strike a balance between policy objectives and industry interests.
This is a positive note for the Indian IT Hardware sector,” said Mr. Nitin Kunkolienkar, President Emeritus,
MAIT.
MAIT
seeks DGFT’s support to ensure that the registration process on the portal
proceeds smoothly and that import authorisations are approved within 24-48
hours.
